“ARTISTE” is not a catalogue. It is a working text, in which Leo Novoro sets out his thesis: we live in a civilisation of the game, and painting is one of the few ways to make its rules visible.
The book accompanies the series — political canvases, glass mosaics, portraits — and provides keys: subpersonalities, volume, light, pretence.

Painted in 2005, Subpersonalities has become Leo Novoro’s manifesto image: a single face carries several expressions, as if the portrait contained the crowd of its possible characters. That idea — the individual as an assembly — is what the book unfolds.
