9pieces

Nine glass mosaics on wood, 2011–2021. Tesserae are cut and set by hand; light passes through the glass and changes the colour with the hour and the viewing angle. Each piece is unique, with no print or reproduction.

Technique

The mosaicist’s gesture

A work of patience: each tessera is chosen for its hue and its refraction.

Glass mosaic is not an enlarged painting: it is a constructed surface. Leo Novoro cuts the tesserae, sets them on a wooden support, then lets light do the rest. Depending on the hour and the viewer’s position, reds ignite, blues fade, golds shift.

The subjects come from the same source as the canvases — the city, power, icons — but glass imposes its own time: a mosaic is not read in a single glance, it is crossed.
